Welcome to the Luna PadĀ©

We are sharing our design with the world, we simply want all girls and women to have access to a sustainable washable solution to manage their period. This provides opportunity and education for girls and will dramatically affect their health and wellbeing.

The Luna PadĀ© has been created to be easy to sew, easy and comfortable to use, and simple to wash and dry.

Our Luna PadĀ© is copyright. Please note that this does not stop you using the design, just that it protects and remains our property under Australian Copyright law for 70 years.

Canberra Circle of Women have developed the Luna PadĀ© to be comfortable to wear and easy to look after,Ā  plus be practical in the day to day lives of girls and women who do not necessarily have access to privacy, toilets or washing machines.

We believe that the Luna PadĀ© should be accessible to the world, however to ensure that the Luna PadĀ© remains our property we have chosen to copyright it for use.Ā  To obtain the instruction on making the Luna PadĀ©, please contact us via email canberracircleofwomen@gmail.com. Ā We will register your name with Canberra Circle of Women, provide agreement for you to use the pattern and to allow us to contact you for feedback.

Women and girls need sustainable and washable solutions for managing their period cycle, and after much research, we believe that the Luna PadĀ© stands alone as a comfortable, practical solution, offering dignity and confidence to all
girls and women.

The Luna Pad uses high tech absorbency fabric called Zorb Original (available in Australia) which is made from cellulose which is incredibly absorbent (20 times its weight), easy to wash and resists odour. We chose this over bamboo, as Zorb dried much more quickly and absorbed more readily.

We also wanted the Luna PadĀ© to cope easily with heavier flow or post postpartum days. So the Luna Kit contains three heavy flow Luna PadĀ© for overnight/heavy flow days and five regular size Luna PadĀ© for the lighter flow days.

Luna Kit contents:

      • 8 pads – 3 heavy flow and 5 regular
      • 1 zipped plastic pencil case for used pads
      • 2 pair cotton underwear
      • 1 face washer – we use microfibre
      • 1 small cake soap
      • 1 brochure A5
      • 1 period calendar and small lead pencil
      • 1 outer zipped bag 40x30cm with size tag

We invite you to make Luna PadsĀ© for girls & women anywhere. If you are sewing the pads to send to other countries,
we have an English version of the A5 brochure. We encourage you to ask the women to write the brochure in their language, and with terms specific to their culture.

Please note that we have an information pack which can be used when giving out the Luna Kit. We have been mindful in what this information looks like and we decided to include basic information about the Luna Kit, how to use it, and how to care for it. While other organisations go much deeper, our hope is that this basic, but logical information will empower girls and women and help them to care for the Luna Kit so it lasts for years.

It should be noted that there are cultural differences and preferences in regards to certain colours or patterns in every culture. We suggest that before embarking on making the Luna PadĀ©, research and communication are important to provide Luna PadsĀ© that will be used, cared for and treasured.
