Sew for Change

Sew for Change is the overarching program in which our wonderful volunteers get together to sew clothing, Mumma and Joey Kits and Luna Kits.

The Luna Kits and the Mumma and Joey Kits are packed every month at the International Distribution Hub at the Garratt Street Centre, Wanniassa. Everyone is welcome for these busy events, and we welcome newcomers.

Education is important for girls
If we can keep a girl in school, it makes an enormous positive difference for her future, and break the poverty cycle. She will have a greater chance to

  • Build a career for herself
  • Have better health outcomes
  • Marry later and have less children
  • Stay in her own community
  • Educate her own children
  • Increase the gross national product

Every month we hold sewing circles on a Friday afternoons (3 per month) in Pearce at the Meeting Room, Pearce Community Centre, Building 1. Our volunteers sew Luna pads, Mumma and Joey Kits and components such as nappies and cot sheets, and children’s clothes.  Join our Sewing Circle to find out how you can be involved.

Our volunteers also sew and knit at home too, providing thousands of articles of clothing for children in need globally.

Our knitting circles are held weekly on Tuesday at the Mawson Raiders Club from 1pm to 4 pm, and at the Arthritis ACT Offices, Haydon Drive Bruce 1:30 pm to 3:30pm. We also hold a monthly knitting circle at the Community Room, Garratt Street Centre, Wanniassa one a month, on the third Wednesday of the month 1pm to 4pm. Join our Knitting Circle to find out more.

We would love you to join us. Everyone is welcome and appreciated. See our facebook group for regular updates.

Our Mumma and Joey Kit packing day and the Luna Kit packing day are held on Thursdays each once a month, at the Canberra Circle of Women International Distribution Hub, Garratt Street Centre, Wanniassa. See Packing Days for details.
